Would be nice if...

Situation:
One of the problems with mapping software is making the connection between a map and printed directions and what's on the actual road you're travelling.

Target:
Improve the effectiveness of mapping software to get you where you're going.

Proposal:
Design a small dashboard-mounted video camera and pay people to drive around with them on their dashboards. Eventually, with enough people recording, even the most remote routes and paths will be tracked and recorded via satellite feed. Possible applications beyond mapping software include:
  • Realistic video game driving simulators
  • Real-time traffic reporting from the driver's perspective
  • More reliable eyewitness reports for accidents.
